Overview
The School is a Government Aided Special School for the physically handicapped students, founded and sponsored by the Hong Kong Red Cross in 1973, providing a capacity of 120.

Mission
Based on the Red Cross Principle of Humanity, we care for students with physical disabilities and sickness by providing them with holistic education and fostering the value of respecting life. We aim at helping them overcome difficulties, developing potentials, enhancing sense of dignity, building up self-confidence, and integrating into the community, thus enabling them to attain a fruitful life and contribute to the society.

Facilities
Area:5500 square meter
Facilities:10 classrooms and 6 special rooms including Home Economics Room, Visual Art Room, Integrated Science Room, Computer Room, Music Room, Computer Assisted Learning Room cum Other Learning Experience Resource Room. Therapeutic rooms include Occupational Therapy Room, Physiotherapy Room, Speech Therapy Room, Activities of Daily Living Room, Sensory Integration Room, and Multi-sensory Room. Besides, School Library, Toy Library, Student Activity Room and Assembly Hall are equipped to facilitate students’ learning.

Curriculum
Class Organization:Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 6
Curriculum Management:We provide adapted curriculum and ordinary curriculum for our students based on their learning needs. Students’ studies are divided into 4 Key Stages and monitored by 4 independent Quality Teams.
Summative Assessment:For adapted curriculum, an intra-school unified assessment tool is adopted and the achievement of students is described as 12 levels. For ordinary curriculum, the assessment is based on the Education Bureau guidelines. Students who complete S6 curriculum can participate in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) and Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) for further studies.

Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work Service, Medical Caring Service, and Educational Psychology Service

Student Support and Students’ Achievement
We create every opportunity for students to try and learn. With our encouragement and support, many students participate in various competitions, award schemes, and learning activities. Students were awarded prizes, certificates and scholarship, e.g. Wong Tai Sin Man Chi Scholarship and Shell/ Island JC Scholarship for the Disabled. From ‘Impossible’ to ‘I’m possible’, our students can always do better than what we expect with opportunities and support.

Information Technology Support
We support students with assistive devices so that they can participate in learning activities and communication. The IT section facilitates teachers to design e-textbooks to enhance interactive learning and teaching. Wi-fi has been set up on the campus, new tablets and notebook computers have been purchased for promotion of e-learning.

Co-curricular Activities
There are various types of interest groups for students’ participation, including Pottery, Ball Games, Gardening, English Corner, Cookery, School Choir cum Percussion Band, Drama Group, Cub Scout, Red Cross Youth and the Hong Kong Awards for Young People etc. We organize Annual Sports Day to arouse students’ awareness on physical education, as well as exploring potential students to join international sports events. We also promote Environmental Protection Education to promote positive values on energy conservation. Enrolling students to participate in Speech Festival (Cantonese, English, Putonghua) and Music Festival is one of the ways to build up self-esteem of our students. Students are encouraged to join overseas study tours organized by the Education Bureau and other organizations, aiming at widen their horizons and provide them chances to explore the world. In the past, students visited Taiwan and Guangdong Province, which were valuable learning chances.

Home School Co-operation
We have established Parent-staff Association since 1999. We organize various kinds of parents-staff activities each year.

Non-Chinese Students (NCS)
We believe that all children are educable regardless of the differences in nationalities, races, religions, and culture. We admitted Non-Chinese Students every year. Our Non-Chinese teaching staff can communicate with students and parents in Hindi, Urdu and Nepali. With years of teaching experiences in NCS, our staff team is sophisticated in catering students’ learning needs

Boarding Service
Red Cross boarding service is provided to our students in need. Currently, ther are about 1/5 students who are taking the boarding service.

School Bus Services
School buses provide transportation services for students on Hong Kong Island, as well as in Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O.

Fee
No school fees, but there are miscellaneous fees including photocopying fee, school bus fee, and lunch box fee.

Physically handicapped children age 6 or above

Application
Referred by Education Bureau with initial assessment, then interviewed by School Intake Committee.
